Ramayan gets highest ratings for a Hindi mythological seriel 2020
Ramanand Sagar's Ramayan, which was originally telecast in 1987 is back on DD National from March 28. The re-telecast of the mythological show has garnered massive ratings. According to a recent report by BARC(Broadcast Audience Research Council) India, Doordarshan's Ramayan rerun got the highest ever rating for a Hindi GEC show since 2015, when BARC started measuring the TV audience.

In the wake of the countrywide lockdown for 21 days to deal with the COVID-19 outbreak, Doordarshan decided to bring back 80s mythological shows Ramayan and Mahabharat. There had been a public demand to bring back these shows, the decision was taken with a view to provide engaging entertainment to the home-bound audience, read a statement released by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

Ramayan garnered 170 million viewers in four shows over the last weekend in its new avatar, the BARC said on Thursday. BARC's chief executive Sunil Lulla said the numbers notched up by the series were a bit surprising and called the move as a "brilliant" one by the Prasar Bharti.

Shashi Shekhar, CEO of Prasar Bharati took to Twitter to share the good news. He wrote, "Thrilled to share that the re-telecast of RAMAYAN on @ddnational has garnered the highest ever rating for a Hindi GEC show since 2015 (source: @BARCIndia). This is a record of sorts for Doordarshan since BARC started TV Audience Measurement in 2015 underscoring how India is watching DD even as India fights back #CORONA #StayHomeToStaySafe."
